Sustainability and the Envirnoment
At JR Roofing, we ensure to stay sustainable and do what we can to protect the environment.
From reusing most of our materials where we can, to restoring the environment through planting trees, you can read about how we take care of our environment and the local community.
Reuse
We reuse plenty of our roofing materials, such as lead, which is one of the most recycled and reused materials in the industry. Lead needs to be removed carefully if reused, however it has scrap value and is recycled very often. We use scrap lead to make lead motifs for roofs upon request.
A lot of slate, clay and concrete tiles can be reclaimed.
Slate has a very long lifespan, lasting over hundreds of years. These types of reclaimed slates have multiple uses, with one of them being heritage roofs. We use reclaimed slate to keep the old aesthetics of the home, this is for both re-roofs and repairs. This also applies to clay tiles, which have a very long lifespan, having the ability to be reclaimed and reused if removed and cleaned carefully. Concrete is rarer to be reused, due to its low lifespan, however it can be easily recycled.
Recycle
Concrete tiles are not the only material that we recycle, in fact, all of our waste is recycled. Although we try to reclaim slate and clay tiles, ones that are no longer usable are crushed and used for things such as aggregate. We also try to recycle the flat roofing materials, such as PVC that can be processed and turned into new membranes.
Restore
Taking care of the community and environment is important to us, that is why we have used Ecologi to plant trees. We planted trees on behalf of our client and offset the carbon emissions of our team’s personal and professional lives.
Reduce
We ensure to limit the amount of travel our roofers do by arranging survey appointments by postcode to avoid unnecessary journeys, as well as ordering materials in bulk where possible.
Ensuring to apply this to our office is just as important. We have minimised the use of paper within the office, by moving our processes to electronic systems. We also aim to reduce the amount of electricity we use, for example checking and making sure that all electrical equipment is turned off when not in use.
