Your current roof system is important when considering repairs, replacements and conversions. It is quite likely that you may have a cold roof system, but we do offer warm roof conversions so that you can get the most out of your flat roof.
Cold roof systems usually have insulation between the joists, and are flatter than warm roofs. They are better for buildings with height restrictions and are more cost effective as they require less materials. However, they have greater condensation risks, which could cause the timbers to rot, the insulation to be less efficient and possible mold growth.
Recommended For Most Properties
Warm roof systems have insulation on top of the roof structure, so they are taller than cold roof systems. They are better for buildings where there are no height restrictions because they require more materials on top of the original structure, and this could also cause higher costs. However, a warm roof system gets rid of the issue of condensation thanks to its build up, and is more energy efficient as it performs better in keeping the heat within the building compared to cold roofs.
There are many choices, bitumen, PVC, Fibreglass GRP. But what do they actually mean and which one should you choose?
It is safe to say that all of the choices do the same job: keep your roof waterproof and protect the structure inside. The only thing that changes is their application and what they look like.
All of our membranes have at least a 20 year guarantee, so its best to choose the membrane based on:
For roofs in sight, we recommend liquid membranes as they are more seamless and usually the most visually appealing.
For roofs out of sight, we recommend single ply systems as they are deemed not as attractive but are cheaper, so if you won’t be seeing them, it could be worth considering instead.
However, these are subjective and up to your preference.
For large flat roofs, we recommend most single ply membranes, as they are designed to expand and contract.
For smaller flat roofs, both are considered good, just depend on other factors.
For complex roofs, we recommend liquid membranes as it saves labour time, therefore lowering the costs.
For simple roofs, we recommend single ply membranes as they are usually a cheaper alternative.
And so why do we recommend membranes based on these factors?
So that we can offer you the best and cheapest option available. All of the roofing membranes do a great job at being waterproof, but costs can come from the materials and labour time.

Yes. Many flat roofs can be repaired if the issue is identified early. Small leaks, damaged flashings and isolated areas of wear can often be repaired without replacing the entire roof. During our survey, we'll provide honest advice on whether a repair or replacement is the most suitable option.
Yes. All qualifying flat roof installations carried out by JR Roofing are backed by guarantees that match the roofing system installed.
Depending on the covering selected, this may include 10-Year or 20-Year guarantees, supported by both our workmanship commitment and the manufacturer's guarantee requirements.
While guarantees provide valuable protection, a professionally installed flat roof should continue to perform well beyond its guarantee period when properly maintained.
Warm roof systems typically require Building Regulations compliance and, where applicable, we can provide a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC) through our membership of the NFRC Competent Person Scheme.
Cold roof systems do not typically qualify for BRCC certification in the same way, as they do not generally meet the thermal performance requirements associated with warm roof construction.
During your survey, we'll explain which roofing system is most suitable for your property and whether Building Regulations certification will apply.
