Why the customer contacted us...
The customer contacted our office being quite stressed out. She spoke about her valley leaking and was hoping to get it repaired as soon as possible. So we booked her in for a roof inspection.
What was wrong with the roof?
The two roof valleys and ridges were viewed via our drone, and we quickly noticed that the issues came from the mortar. In terms of the valleys, the mortar was directly bedded against the lead flashings. This was a cause of concern as lead expands and contracts due to heat, which resulted in the mortar cracking and ultimately failing.
The customer shared the history of prior repairs, explaining that they were “repaired so many times” and concerned that the other valleys were “just as bad”.
Currently, the customer was worried about being scammed once again, that is why we were contacted to conduct the repair.
How we fixed the issue.
We started off by stripping away the tiles around the valley areas carefully, before removing the existing lead valley, along with the cracked mortar. Before continuing, we inspected the area to ensure that it is suitable to install the new valleys. After preparing said area, we installed the GRP valley system with bonded joints and made sure that the alignment was correct and the fixing was secure. After checking that everything is right, we reinstalled the tiles, ensuring that the spacing from the valley was correct. We fixed and clipped all of the tiles before checking that the valleys were watertight, and they were indeed.
The finished result.
The valleys were able to save our customer from the constant headaches and stress that the faulty valleys were giving her, with no more leaks being reported. The result was a lot more visually pleasing as well, no longer having cracked mortar sticking from the sides of the valley.
